Application Components

To apply to trade schools, find the application portal on the schools website. If you are applying to a trade school in Georgia, you can also apply through GAFutures.org. Trade school applications have fewer requirements than 4 year college applications but it is important to still understand the components of your application.

Transcript

You will need to send an official copy of your transcript to the technical college that you apply to. Midtown uses the Parchment service to send transcript information. Students can send transcripts free of charge until June 1st the year that they graduate using the midtown parchment link, found here. If students request transcripts through parchment without using this link they will be charged for the service.

Placement Testing

Students interested in trade school will have to complete some form of placement testing. Tests accepted include the PSAT, ACT, and SAT. Many students have taken one of these tests during their time at Midtown. Most technical colleges also have testing centers where students can take the ACCUPLACER placement test. Information about scores can be found here. Scores under the section "Diploma Scores" allow students to be eligible for certificate/diploma programs (Shorter 12-18 month programs), "Degree Scores" allow students to be eligible for Associates Degree programs (2 year programs). Higher scores make students eligible for placement into a higher level math or english class, skipping the first classes. Students with a 2.0 HOPE GPA can exempt the testing requirements for diploma programs and students with a 2.6 can also exempt the testing requirements for the associate degree program, this will not allow students to receive any class credit.

Application Fee

When you apply to a trade school you will normally have to pay a fee to apply. However, in Georgia we have two events that give students the opportunity to apply for free. November is Georgia's apply to college month, all application fees are waived for all public colleges and trade schools in Georgia. Georgia also has March Madness, which allows students to apply to trade schools with no application fee. Plan to apply in one of these months to save some money!
